You can call it classical camp, you can call it etherical-infused pop...it's THE IRREPRESSIBLES. You may know there songs from the great-gay-boys-washing-cars-and-playing-ping-pong video for the PAG PARTIES. This 10-man orchestra or ensemble, led by composer and musician Jamie McDermott, just released their first album Mirror Mirror and their new single gets some high-end remix-treatments by the likes of Hercules & Lover Affair and Röyksopp and Zero7. It has a Wild Beasts meets a teaspoon of New Age vibe over it. Not for everyone...but a great Sunday night (post hurricane) musical discovery.
The H&LA remix brings the song into this 90s-thriller-like-neon-movie atmosphere...but one with a happy end!
Charlotte Gainsbourg found the time in between movies to put together an EP Terrible Angels, that she will release the 5th of September. After working with Jarvis Cocker, Air and Beck she collaborates this time (besides Beck) with Irish boy-wonder Conor O'Brien from Villagers.
Here you can already savor Terrible Angels with the synchronized-garage-paranoia video by Nathalie Canguilhem
While I was high in the air and relaxed, flying towards the Amalfi Coast in the South of Italy I was thinking back of all the great destinations I've visited so far... at the same time almost I discovered in a magazine on the plane this jewelery collection called Seasoned Traveler by the Los Angeles based PLASTIQUE*.
Famous landmarks are molded into acrylic rings (1 or 2 fingers) and necklaces. You can have the Big Ben, the leaning tower of Pisa and the Golden Gate Bridge,... on your fingertips or you can put the entire London skyline around your neck.
PLASTIQUE* :playful plastic jewelery with a graphic designer's touch. Check out their other collections and buy them on their website plastiqueshop.com
These songs have a slightly different and more US-polished sound (produced by Stargate), less playful then her last album.
In a way you can say more mature, and it works well. The way her voice, the beat and the sad story come together make you wanna hear more from the up-coming album "Electra Heart" which embodies the lies, illusions and death of an American Dream.. Mature Marina, we like you!!
And don't forget the video for Radioactive! For me, I can see all these references to American pop/movie culture, and the blond wig gives Miss Marina a Michelle Williams look while she road-trips with her boyfriend...in a sometimes Lynch-ian way with a dash of Zabriskie Point. But hey, that's maybe just me!
