some post-birthday fun with the dreamy but fun chillwave-pop of Brothertiger (Athens, Ohio) and their party-aerobic-video for the song Lovers.
Music video for "Lovers" by Brothertiger. Directed by Kiki Allgeier.
Produced by Kiki Allgeier and David Ambrose. Models/Actors: Jessica
Elizabeth Cole and Isobel Arnberg. From the album Golden Years on Mush Records.
As you may have read before here, I'm a fan of White Sea aka Morgan Kibby and also her remixes give every song this epic and echo-ing touch with dreamy and deformed voices. Listen to the rework she did earlier this year for Shells of Silver by The Japanese Popstars ft. James Vincent McMorrow.
Samuel Kientsch and Benjamin Vorono, founders of Braille Man, the menswear label based in London since January 2009, build up their collections around their background in sociology & graphic design combined with their love for culture and nature.
Only using qualitative and British produced natural fabrics (like Yorkshire Tweeds and Scottish waxed cottons), they created the silhouettes they could find in the already existing fashion labels around. Every piece of their collection is, thanks to the use of the fabrics, a very tactile experience with always a reference to some of the menswear classics we should all have in our wardrobe.
As they say themselves : clothes manufactured in cuts that suit the active, modern gentleman!
Check out the paper version of the Sanctified Darth Vader, made by London based, but Barcelona born artist Javier from Lobulo Design. An impressive, playful, funny and crafty project commissioned by Göoo, a visual arts/graphic design magazine!

After the hypnotizing visual blast I got from seeing Drive and after listening to the great soundtrack that made me wanna take of into the neon-lit skies of L.A. ...I just wanted more...and there it was :
symmetry / Themes for an imaginary film
Johnny Jewel got his superheroe team of Chromatics, Mirage, Desire & Glass Candy together and they worked for over 3 years on this soundtrack for and inspired by designers, cruisers, night walkers, & dreamers.
As Mr. Jewel descibes it so well how Symmetry embraces the elegance of European noir cut with a lean & violent American razor.
Think black-tainted carwindows, landscapes slinding by in slowmotion, purple leather on smooth-silk hands, again neon lights and a rush of adrenaline, even imaginary...it will drive you into the film of your life!
First we had Thursday and the fantastic House of Balloons...and now finally we can indulge ourselves in the last part of the musical trilogy by rNb-genius/producer The Weeknd.
A brand new entry on my MUST HAVE birthdaypresent-list :
this full grain hand painted leather pouch/toiletry bag by Vlieger & Vandam.
It makes traveling so much more fun...jetlag-eyes will shine in no time when
gazing upon this little wonder!
Vlieger & Vandam is an Amsterdam based accesories label who have a taste for the eccentric and controversial (see their gun-bulged bags)...loved by celebrities!
2 weeks ago there was finally a sequel to the very stylish and musically astounding VICUNA parties in Brussels. After a party in the dark of the subways where you could dance in a hidden and long-forgotten art-space underneath the city of Brussels, the Vicuna team hosted their party in the graffiti-covered train station Recyclart.
Besides dj-sets by Aguila , Captain Starlight, the playful Tim Sweeney (NY) and a concert of Bright Entity you could admire and experience the designs and creations of fashion designers by the likes of
If you like the voice of Fever Ray/Karin Dreijer and you are up for some more dark electronics coming straight at you from Scandinavia, then Notic Nastic will be your thing.
Deformed voices, noisy and thumbing beats droning you up and down in a cold but vibrant trip.
Maybe a bit too much attitude in this video, not as good as The Knife videos (although I see some references) but her sound has got enough hooks to get stuck onto your skin!
After a long periode of radiosilence, one of my favourite poptronic bands is back!
Chairlift got everyone's attention (even if you didn't know them) with their heartwarming song "Bruises" that was used for an Apple commercial.
Very curious of what other sounds they had to unleash onto the world I went to see them in concert and I must say it was amazing. Intimate but with a blast. The gorgeous looking and sounding Caroline Polachek had an on-stage love/hate-thing going on with the bass player which resulted in some thrilling heat and passion in their music (see pic of AB concert 2009).
But after touring and some guest-appearances for Miss Polachek it became a bit quiet and the band went from a trio to a duo which changed apparently also a bit the style on their new album.
Something I didn't noticed at all when they launched the uber-funny video for the feel-good-dance-song-with-the-unpronounceable-name Amanaemonesia. For me this was 100% Chairlift : fun but touching, soft but danceable.
So after this warm-up they are about to release their second album : Something.
The first single "met before" sounds almost 70s inspired with a dash of rock and full of musical effects...a bit spacey even. And also Sidewalk Safari, the opening track of the new album is bombastical psychedellica all over. A style only a band as Chairlift can get away with as the best.
So I'm looking forward to see them again in concert (album launch is scheduled for 24 January)
UK (nu-)disco producer Edwin van Cleef reworks & covers at the same time Phoenix's almost culthit Listzomania giving it a back and forth sweeping background beat drenched in the sensual vocals of Australian Jane Elizabeth Hanley. Neon tiles lighten up underneath your feet while trying to step away from this song...you'll move...back onto the dancefloor!
Leaked and/or lauched...hardcandymusic presented us with the new Roisin Murphy single Simulation. A soft-thumbing discobeat produced by ??? (all we know he's from North England) who turned it into a smiling-smoothly-from-the-other-side-of-the-club undercooled housy pop song that goes along very well with Miss Murphy's voice.
